Description

The Ikejime fish spike is an essential tool for swiftly and humanely destroying a fish's brain. It is especially crucial when dealing with tuna, as stress hormones can taint the meat and cause an unpleasant odor. Additionally, if the fish is not dispatched quickly, it can thrash about on the deck, resulting in bruising and burnt meat. By utilizing this technique, you can extend the shelf life of the fish. To use, locate the preoperculum line on the fish's head and insert the spike, giving it a turn.

  • 100% hand construction
  • Constructed of 440C stainless steel

OK, this thing is large and the handle is huge and just bare metal. It needs to be covered so there is more to grasp on to. I was pretty disappointed but ended up fabricating a handle with paracord and it looks a little lame but it is now easier on the hand. Did I mention that it is quite large? The leather sheath is nice. This was quite pricey for what it is although the stainless steel looks decent quality and if I were a fish, I wouldn't want to be pithed with it which is the point. But come on guys, you need a better handle! :)
